14th International Cartoon Biennale 2021

14th International Cartoon Biennale 2021

We are extremely pleased to present the catalogue of the Humour & Vigne Festival exhibition dedicated to cartoons and the cultural heritage of the grape vine. Due to the sanitary crisis, the programme of events and exhibitions planned for 2020 had to be postponed in 2021 and we very much hope to regain our legendary spirit of conviviality and ‘Joie de vivre’.

On the agenda this year we propose again: exhibitions with more than 500 works by hundreds of artists from all over the world; a “salon” of about twenty cartoonists invited to exchange, sign and make live caricatures; tastings, performances, music, dance, meals; publishing of catalogues, programmes, posters, special vintage labels, not to mention the famous “Balad'humour” (by coach).

Since the 13th Biennale in Jonzac in Summer 2018, the Humour & Vigne team has participated in twenty-four events and around fifty educational workshops, sharing its passion for humour, tolerance and freedom of expression. As a reminder: since 1994, nearly 160 exhibitions have been organized in 72 places in France, Belgium, China, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Morocco and Serbia, totalling in recent years an average of 100,000 visitors per year. This year we received more than double the number of cartoons than the previous years: 2,223 works from 382 cartoonists from 68 countries including 10 from new countries. In this catalogue you will discover an anthology dealing with the theme ‘Joie de Vivre’ (with or without a link with the grape vine), ‘Covid’ or caricature.
